Annual MLK Day Celebration in Lexington set for Jan. 15, 2024

This year’s MLK Holiday Celebration will be Jan. 15, 2024 beginning with the annual Freedom March at 1 p.m. and concluding with the powerful commemorative program held at the Central Bank Center at 2 p.m. The march begins and ends at the Central Bank Center in downtown Lexington. 

‘UK at the Half’: UK celebrates first-gen students

Around 25% of all students who attend the University of Kentucky are first-generation students. This means that their parent(s) or guardians did not complete a four-year college or university degree. At the university, not only do we welcome these trailblazers with open arms, but we also provide them with the resources needed for them to thrive. In doing so, UK recently celebrated National First-Generation Week, hosted by the Office for Student Success.

UK's Frank X Walker named Grand Prize Winner of 2023 Black Authors Matter Children’s Book Awards

"A Is for Affrilachia" by artist, writer, poet and University of Kentucky professor Frank X Walker is the grand prize winner of the 2023 Black Authors Matter Children’s Book Awards. Illustrated by acclaimed artist Ron Davis (upfromsumdirt), "A Is for Affrilachia" was chosen for best overall book and content and also selected as the best book in the educational category.

Students invited to attend Multicultural Student Thanksgiving Dinner

Can’t make it home for Thanksgiving? Never experienced a traditional American Thanksgiving? All University of Kentucky students and their families are invited to join the UK Alumni Association, the UK International Center, UK Dining and the UK Student Government Association for the 17th annual Multicultural Student Thanksgiving Dinner. The dinner will be held  5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the Gatton Student Center Grand Ballroom.  

UK, Lyric Theatre join forces to celebrate hip-hop's 50th anniversary

The University of Kentucky Office for Institutional Diversity (OID), the Commonwealth Institute for Black Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Office of Inclusion and Internationalization in the College of Education are partnering with Lyric Theater and Cultural Arts Center to present a remarkable event commemorating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

Attend this year's Dia de Los Muertos celebration

The PrestigiOuZ Omicron Zeta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc.,  in collaboration with the Latino Student Union, the Martin Luther King Center, Brotherhood, Inclusivity, Integrity, Leadership and Service (BIILS) and CARES, will host the annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, on the social staircase in the Gatton Studnet Center.
