UK presents 'Cafecito con Chavez: An Evening with Eduardo Chavez'

The University of Kentucky Martin Luther King (MLK) Center, Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Lewis Honors College, College of Arts and Sciences, and Department of Hispanic Studies are hosting “Cafecito con Chavez: An Evening with Eduardo Chavez.” 

Lyman T. Johnson award winners announced

Nearly 40 University of Kentucky alumni and students will be honored during the 32nd annual Lyman T. Johnson Awards Luncheon 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the Gatton Student Center Grand Ballroom on UK’s campus.   

2023 Inclusive Excellence Student Program grant window opens Oct. 1

The University of Kentucky Office for Institutional Diversity is accepting proposals for the next round of grant funding through the office's Inclusive Excellence Student Program grants. Proposals for this round will be accepted from Oct. 1-31, 2023. Selected proposals will be awarded funding for the Spring 2024 semester.

Start-to-Finish mentorship program now accepting new applicants

The Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives (CGPDI) is excited to launch another year of the Start-to-Finish (STF) mentorship program. STF is a mentorship initiative for diverse and historically underrepresented populations in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. This is a joint effort between the CGPDI, the Graduate Student Congress (GSC) and The Graduate School to provide support for all levels of mentoring. STF leadership team would like to invite you to be a participant in this sponsored mentorship opportunity at the University of Kentucky.

Celebrate Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month with the UK community

For more than 30 years, the United States has recognized Sept. 15 as the start of Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month.  Enacted into law in 1988 by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, allows the country to come together to celebrate the long and diverse history of Latin American identity, cultures, languages and vast contributions.   

UK to participate in United Negro College Fund (UNCF) National Walk for Education

Units across the University of Kentucky campus on Sept. 23, 2023, will participate in the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) National Walk for Education. The Walk for Education is a nationwide initiative to raise funds UNCF needs to support student scholars as they pursue their educational endeavors. With a mission to build a robust and nationally recognized pipeline of underrepresented students, UNCF hopes to create a respected model of best practices in moving students to and through college. 

Register now for this year's Ubuntu Orientation Celebration

The University of Kentucky Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives and the UK Graduate School’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion invites all graduate and professional students, staff and faculty to attend the seventh annual Ubuntu Orientation Celebration from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, in The Cornerstone Esports Lounge. 

UK's Damon Williams chosen for Academic Leadership Institute Residential Program

Damon Williams, associate vice president for institutional diversity at the University of Kentucky, was selected for the 2023 Academic Leadership Institute (ALI) Residential Program, which was held July 30-Aug. 3, 2023, in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, on the campus of Swarthmore College.

UK Osher Lifelong Learning Institute accepting new members

The University of Kentucky Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is now accepting new members for the Summer 2023 semester. OLLI at UK is a membership lifelong learning program open to adults 50 years of age and up. OLLI offers educational and enrichment courses, forums, shared interest groups, trips, events and more. Summer memberships are available now for $15. The summer course catalog can be viewed at www.uky.edu/olli/course-catalogs.

UK honors Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

The AAPI story is not a monolith. Each generation grows more empowered as they give themselves permission to be loud and speak out against that which continues to haunt their prosperity — a loudness not afforded to their ancestors. This May, we celebrate AAPI strength, resilience, beauty and continued advocacy. We celebrate the Angel Island dreams.
